assignment 2
For your first Annotated Bibliography, you used your researching abilities to find and evaluate sources for Major Paper #1. This week, you will expand your Annotated Bibliography to reflect the expanded research you have done in preparation for Major Paper #2. You will need to include citations and annotations for a total of ten sources that you will be using in Major Paper #2. Include the MLA formatted citation for ten sources. For each source, you will need to write a 1–2 paragraph summary of the source. Next, for each source, write a 1–2 paragraph description of how you evaluate the source’s credibility and effectiveness. Be sure that you are critiquing the source as you reflect, noting strengths for your paper but examining weaknesses as well. Finally, explain how you plan to use the source in your paper. Use at least one instance of summary, one instance of paraphrasing, and one instance of quoting in the annotation for each source, as described in chapter 8 of the weekly reading. If you are working with the same issue you explored in Major Paper #1, or even a different issue connected to the same topic, you will likely be able to use some or all of the five sources that were included in your first Annotated Bibliography. In these cases, you will likely be able to use the same, or a similar, summary of the source as well. However, since you are writing and researching for a different purpose, you will have to revise your evaluation of the source and your discussion of how you will be using it in the paper. For example, if you used a source in your Major Paper #1 that had a clear bias to create a strong pathos appeal in Major Paper #1, you may want to more strongly critique the source’s bias, and use that source in Major Paper #2 to represent just one angle or perspective of the issue. Most importantly, make these annotations work for you! These short summaries will be your most valuable resource when you go to start drafting your paper. Feel free to add additional information for your own reference if you wish, including quotations you know you’ll want to use, etc. Reminder: This homework assignment must be submitted as a MS Word file attachment.
