Topic Proposal & Annotated Bibliography
The 500-word topic proposal (which precedes the four writing assignments below) should identify the project you want to research this semester (location, date of construction and designer, if applicable), and explain why you want to study this work. You may choose any building, urban space, interior or landscape that interests you The following topics may not be used in a research paper: the Colosseum (Rome), St. Peter’s Basilica (Rome), Notre-Dame cathedral (Paris), the Louvre (Paris), the Leaning Tower (Campanile) in Pisa, Hagia Sofia (Istanbul), and Stonehenge (or any neolithic ruins). You must choose a topic which is not covered in the required readings; consult the syllabus to confirm whether your topic is acceptable. Annotated Bibliography This is a list of five printed sources (books, book chapters or journal articles) accompanied with a synopsis of each one.
