“Voices from Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster” (*NOTE: See .PDF attachment below to read the required sections as stipulated below) ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS ———————————————————————- First, read the following sections of the text, “Voices form Chernobyl: The Oral History of a Nuclear Disaster” : • “Translator’s Preface” • “Historical Notes” • Prologue (p.5-23) • “Monologue about the Facts” (p.205-213) • “Children’s Chorus” (p.216-220) • “In Place of an Epilogue” (p.235-6) ———————————————————————- After reading the above mentioned sections of the text, provide detailed, specific, and descriptive answers to the following questions: 1. COMPARE. List and describe any topics and themes in this book that can also be found in past readings assignments we’ve covered so far — which are as follows: • Euripides’ The Madness of Herakles • Plato’s Allegory of the Cave • Dostoevsky’s The Grand Inquisitor • Art Spiegelman’s Maus 2. CONTRAST. What topics and/or themes are new and unique to this work, in contrast to the past texts (listed above)? (*NOTE: You do NOT need to read the entire texts listed above — you just need to understand the basic premise and story line of each text in order to identify the basic themes or topics of each (i.e. racism, poverty, authority, opportunity bias, economic power, etc.).
